Dragonlord Project

This bold project started out as a small idea when Linda suggested making quilts for a few children at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where her daughter and son-in-law were currently stationed, but the project took on a life of its own when the response from Fort Campbell was overwhelming. Quickly realizing that our small group of Bees could not complete this project on their own, Queen Bee Randi took on the monumental task of finding volunteers, each of whom made multiple quilts to fulfill all the requests. In the end, eighty quilts were made with love by quilters from across Northern Nevada for the children of the Dragonlord Battalion at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Although a lot of work, this project was a privilege and a blessing, and we learned many things from the experience. Although Randi is the first one to say she didn't know what she was getting us into, all of us are proud of this major accomplishment and are particularly grateful to Randi for her unflagging leadership.

On August 17, 2011, three of our Bees, Linda, Peggy, and Helen, embarked for Fort Campbell, Kentucky to hand deliver the quilts to the children. Here is a brief video filmed onsite at the party where the children received their quilts, courtesy of Clarksville Now, the local newspaper for the Clarksville/ Fort Campbell area. Visit their website for more photos of the children at the party. See also the postings from 2011 in our blog for a running history of how the project evolved.
