April 2012 Meeting

We held our meeting on April 17 at Helen's house with Peggy, Rita, Helen, Linda, Ellie, Randi, Dawn, Margie, and Tricia attending. Dinner was pasta and potato salads brought by Rita and soup made by Helen. Ellie made her delicious flan, which we had later for dessert.

May Meeting: Tuesday, May 15 at Helen's

Food:

  • Main dish: Margie
  • Salad: Tricia
  • Dessert: Randi

Theme/demo for the meeting is "Heart Your Scraps." We decided against doing a scrap exchange. Please bring ideas and patterns for using up scraps.

Note for June: Peggy will demonstrate binding. I don't remember exactly what about binding she is going to demo -- maybe the technique of "endless" binding.

Guild Business

Challenge Quilts

Linda, Randi, and Dawn brought their Nevada Quilt Guild challenge quilts, and they all really outdid themselves. We had a hilarious time discussing the concepts and details of some of the quilts. Let's just say that our group is a lively bunch with boundless imagination!

Randi's quilt is called "When Snow is on the Poseys, It's Spring Under the Western Sky." Dawn's is called "Just a Peek of the Wild West." Linda's (not pictured) is "Soiled Doves in the Window."

Basket

The basket items were passed off to Margie as this year's basket chairman. Only one item for the basket is pending, chocolate to be donated by Linda. Linda will make arrangements to deliver the chocolate to Margie. Margie will compose the basket and deliver it to Randi by May 7.

For those interested in the basket itself (as discussed in last month's blog), you can read more on BlackStar Imports Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/BasketsandButters). I was not able to find a website where the baskets can be purchased online.

Country Store

No one is planning to donate items to the country store this year, but we discussed the idea of focusing on the country store instead of the basket donation in 2013 with the idea being that if we start early, we can make a lot of good stuff. I seem to remember that part of our commitment as a chartered group that we need to do both. We might need to discuss in more detail at an upcoming meeting.

Bees' Business

Box Quilts

We shared the blocks we made and exchanged boxes. What fun! Remember to send your box with someone else if you are not able to attend the meeting.

Sweatshirts

Rita brought sweatshirts in various sizes for us to try on and keep -- thank you, Rita! She also took individual orders for the colors and size each Bee wanted. Rita will get back to us with exact pricing.

Demo

Peggy demonstrated the Twister tool for making tessellated pinwheels. This tool comes in several sizes and many books and patterns are available.

Show and Tell

Peggy showed a cute turtle wallhanging. She saw the pattern made up on her trip to Hawaii last year and just had to make one for herself. Tricia showed a large tote/diaper bag she made for her daughter.
